    It had plenty of space for us two, with a beautiful view of Lough Meela. It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The instructions about how to get there and also how to use everything were very clear and easy to follow. We would thoroughly recommend it.

This superb, stone-built detached cottage sits at the southern tip of Lough Meela, close to the town of Dungloe in County Donegal on Ireland's wonderful west coast.

Stepping inside your new home from home, be greeted by a bright and airy open-plan living space, bathed in natural light welcomed in through the elegant Velux and floor-to-ceiling windows, sure to be the social hub of the home.

A lengthy journey calls for rest, so kick off your shoes and flick on the television to catch up on your favourite Sky shows as the designated chef utilises the fabulous range of amenities in the kitchen to rustle up a hearty meal.

Descend the stairs and gather together with your loved ones at the dining table to tuck-into a delicious meal before throwing open the French doors and soaking in the last of the evening sunshine amongst the peaceful greenery of the garden.

Settled on the ground floor of this wonderful abode is a handy utility room, equipped with both a washing machine and tumble dryer, perfect for freshening up your holiday attire throughout your stay.

The first of three bedrooms, with a double and a single bed, offering the perfect sleeping quarters for a small family, along with the stylish family bathroom can be found on the ground floor, whilst two double bedrooms are positioned on the first floor, with one benefiting from access to its own en-suite shower room.

Fantastic views of Lough Meela can be enjoyed from the rear of this Dungloe cottage, and the lake also offers excellent fishing opportunities.

Within a short stroll you can access a delightful railway walk that meanders through the countryside, offering wonderful sights along the route, plus the scenic 9-hole golf course on Cruit Island is only a mile away, ideal for a peaceful afternoon.

The town of Dungloe is home to a range of convenient shops, as well as some friendly pubs, where traditional Irish music can often be experienced.

Venture a little further afield and enjoy boat trips to Arranmore and Rutland Island, as well as the stunning Cloughglass Beach, an unforgettable place to spend a quiet day with loved ones.

The entire region is enriched with unspoilt landscapes, lakes and towering mountains, making the perfect place to get active and enjoy outdoor adventure.

About the location

Arranmore Island 7.5 miles; Letterkenny 32 miles.

Up until 1762, entry into the town of Dungloe in Donegal was only possible via the stepping stones dotted over the river. Thankfully, now visitors from all over the world can take the much easier route over Donegal Bridge and enjoy this charming town in County Donegal with ease. Dungloe is known locally as 'The Capital of The Rosses', the name given to this region of the county. The town, which has become recognised as a centre for traditional Irish music, has a selection of shops, bars and eating places, as well as events taking place throughout the year, including the annual 'Mary from Dungloe' festival. A fisherman's paradise, the area has over 130 lakes and rivers and is renowned for its fishing and great sea angling, with several charter boats available in nearby Burtonport, from where diving can also be enjoyed. There are also daily boat trips from the harbour to Arranmore and Rutland Island. Wonderful wildlife can be found in the bogs and reed beds, while golfers will love the variety of golf courses found in the surrounding area. With hills and mountains to explore, the dramatic coastline to enjoy and so much to see and do, this is sure to make the perfect base for your Donegal holiday.
